"We've got magic to do--just for you."

May 7, 2024: Pippin (1972)

Class Preparation

Recommended Reading:
  • Broadway: The American Musical: There is not much about Pippin, except that it's a Bob Fosse show from his "magical" year of 1972, but this background on Fosse is helpful: pages 334-335
  • Carol de Giere's Defying Gravity (2nd edition, 2018): Chapter 7 deals with Pippin (pp. 81-102)
  • Handout of Key Class 2 slides
  • Class 2 Selected Lyrics

Links & Playlists

.Links:
  • There is a complete performance of Pippin on YouTube. The production was recorded in 1981 and features the direction and choreography of Bob Fosse. It stars Ben Vereen as the Leading Player, William Katt as Pippin, Chita Rivera as Fastrada, and Martha Raye as Berthe. The video quality is passable except for a few really poor segments.
 Playlists:
  • Pippin (1972 Original Broadway Cast Recording)
  • Pippin (2013 Broadway Revival Cast Recording)
  • Class 2 Videos (Includes some extras, most from the 2013 revival; does NOT include the clips from the 1981 recording, which are accessible only as part of the 1981 "complete performance" video above)
