Class Preparation

Read Chapter 4 ("Bustin' Out") of Purdum's Something Wonderful. Also read the part of Chapter 9 ("Beyond Broadway") about the making of the film of Carousel (pages 243-246).
A few years ago, "Live from Lincoln Center" broadcast a "semi-staged" concert performance of Carousel starring Kelli O'Hara, Jesse Mueller, Nathan Gunn, and Stephanie Blythe. This performance is available on DVD/Blu-Ray and by streaming on Amazon Prime (free to Prime members).

"Press Reels" (40 minutes of filmed excerpts) from the 1994 Broadway revival directed by Nicholas Hytner, for which Audra McDonald won a Tony Award for playing Carrie. Midway through there are excerpts of the national tour featuring Patrick Wilson as Billy.
Louise's Ballet: Black and white film of complete DeMille choreography with members of the original cast and piano accompaniment. Speculation is that it was filmed to provide DeMille with a record of her work.
