- To learn about The Sound of Music, read Chapter 10 ("Auf Wiedersehen") of Purdum's Something Wonderful.
- Purdum's Chapters 8 ("Catastrophic Success" and 9 ("Beyond Broadway") tell about about shows we haven't covered in class: State Fair (film, 1945), Allegro (1947), Me and Juliet (1953), Pipe Dream (1957), Cinderella (TV, 1957), and Flower Drum Song (1958).
- Purdum's Chapter 11 (“Walking Alone”) and Epilogue (“Bloom and Grow Forever”) describe Rodgers’s work after Hammerstein’s death and discusses the Legacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
